Michael Eugene Osterbauer, 62, of DeGraff, Minnesota, died Tuesday, November 30, 2021, at his home. Visitation will be from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m.  Monday, December 13, 2021 at St. Bridget’s Catholic Church in DeGraff, followed by the Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 a.m. Interment will be at St. Bridget’s Catholic Church Cemetery in DeGraff.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to Harvest Heartland.
Michael Eugene Osterbauer was born March 19, 1959 to Gerald and Vivian (Mellgren) Osterbauer.  Mike was the third child, and first son, born to Jerry and Viv.  Mike attended DeGraff Elementary and graduated from Benson High School. Mike was a lifelong farmer, having started driving tractor while Dad loaded hay, when he was six years old.  Mike could plant the straightest rows you ever saw.  He resisted technology, but as he grew older, he accepted a little help in the form of GPS for planting.  Mike participated in every aspect of field work. Even after his heart attack left it hard for him to get in and out of the tractor or combine, he found a way to do it.  Mike could be stubborn like that.  He was always a hard worker and he liked being busy.
Mike worked hard but he played hard too.  Mike loved adventures. Throughout his life, he enjoyed traveling with family, downhill skiing, hunting, snowmobiling, and riding his Harley Davidson. Mike’s other hobbies included cutting firewood and doing wood working.  Mike’s beautiful woodworking projects are greatly appreciated by those he gifted those projects to. He could dovetail a corner like a pro.  Mike had a great sense of humor and a warm laugh and smile.  As family all knows, his favorite food was probably lefse.
Mike is survived by his dad, Jerry Osterbauer; siblings:  Lauree (Gary) Gunderson, Maree Slaughter, Tony (Janeen) Osterbauer, and Nancy (Barb Bedrosian) Osterbauer; nephews and nieces, Jeremiah Gunderson, Carrie ( Joe) Volek, and Jordan (Alicia) Gunderson; Russell and Jacob Slaughter, Mollee (David) Mielke, Emily (Justin) Craig; Meghan, Brandon and Madison Osterbauer; one great niece and three great nephews; special friend Beth Coolbroth as well as Missy and Josh Pillatzki.
Mike was preceded in death by his mother, Vivian Osterbauer, his brother in law, Steven Slaughter, and his grandparents Rudy and Ellen Osterbauer and Oscar and Lillian Mellgren. He will be missed.

Robert D. Klingle June 28, 1936 • December 11, 2021

Robert Douglas Klingle (Bob or Pete), 85, currently of Dubuque, Iowa, lost his battle with Alzheimer’s disease  December 11, 2021.
Bob was born June 28, 1936 in Cresco, Iowa, son of Francis Leroy Klingle, Sr. and Clara Clemmer Klingle and was referred to by those closest to him as “Pete”.  He married the love of his life, Mary “Jane” DeGreve,  December 27, 1958, who preceded his death February 29, 2016.  Prior to the passing of “Janie”, Bob would often ask the nursing home staff who the lovely woman was next to him and then smile when they responded that she was his wife. He often would forget her name, but was quick to say the one thing he knew was he really, really loved her. The family, along with the nursing home staff who took care of him in his final years, is now comforted knowing that Bob now remembers who he is and is reunited with the love of his life who he could never really forget.
Bob began his career in New Hampton, Iowa, where he owned his own photography studio and was a gifted photographer, particularly when it came to capturing the smiles of children.  He moved to Benson, Minnesota  in 1962 where he was the Chamber of Commerce Manager and the Director of Community Development and Planning until 1985.  He then became the City Manager of Benson from 1985-1992.  Pete and Jane relocated to Slayton, Minnesota in 1992 where he worked as Murray County Economic Development Director.  He retired in 2007 and spent his remaining days in Dubuque, IA where he was blessed to spend more time with his eldest daughter, Tori, and her children.
Bob was driven to see the communities he lived in grow and thrive, whether it entailed bringing industry to Benson or developing bike paths around Lake Shetek. When he wasn’t improving his community, he was busy improving his home by using his hands and his imagination to work through his “honey do” lists and helping his children with their projects or homes.  He was always engaged in some remodeling or building project for his family, with no project too large or too small and almost all involving a few whacks to his noggin.  During his final years, one could often witness him building things in his sleep, which was a lovely reminder that his life was dedicated to making the world a better place for all.
Bob was a gifted gardener and would share the fruits of his labors with his neighbors.  He enjoyed traveling with his wife and dear friends Jan and Paul Kittleson. He also loved playing poker and bridge with his friends and never let even the worst Minnesota blizzards deter him from throwing a good game night.  A man of many words, Bob could tell stories with such vigor and confidence that it was impossible to win a debate or stop and correct him, even if he started a story by saying “When I was a little girl…”  Telling a tale and debating the facts brought a twinkle to his eyes.  Even when the words could no longer be found, his eyes could tell you everything you needed to know.  He had a way of looking directly into your soul and making you feel loved and blessed to be in his presence.  His capacity for love was unmatched, as he would do anything for those around him.
Bob was devoted to his family and is survived by his three children:  Tori Anderson, of Dubuque, IA, otherwise known as “the good one”, as he would reference her when her name left his memory, Renee (Ben) Pearson of Haymarket, VA, known to him as “Renie Bird”, and Mark (Tami) Klingle of Brooklyn, Minnesota; and six grandchildren:  Keely, Kirsten, Tom, Storm, Tyler, and Boden and two great-grandchildren, Jovi and Bjorn.
Bob is preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Don and F.L. Jr., his wife and a son-in-law, Stuart Anderson.
In lieu of flowers, we encourage all to celebrate Bob’s life by donating to the Alzheimer’s Association in his name.  http://act.alz.org/goto/Robert_Klingle
Bob’s life will be celebrated and remembered using the Everloved online memorial site where the people can gather at their convenience to post their memories, thoughts, and/or pictures and view the posting of others.  Go to https://everloved.com/life-of/robert-klingle/ to make your posts.

Pam was a member of East Zion Lutheran Church in rural Starbuck where she taught Sunday School and was the youth choir director for many years – her favorite was directing the Christmas program each year.  Pam had of love of farming and the land, she grew a bountiful vegetable garden every summer and would give her produce to family and neighbors.  Pam raised hogs, tending to them day in and day out, and she loved it.  Pam was short, spunky, and stubborn.  You could always tell when she wasn’t happy – especially if you were called by your first and middle name.  She was patient, kind and had a big caring and generous heart.
Family was Pam’s number one priority.  She could be heard as the loudest one cheering on her sons at their wrestling meets.  She made it a point to call her boys daily to check on them and their families, each at specific times.  She was an excellent cook and enjoyed the daily meals with her family around the table, a tradition that has been passed down to the next generation.  She had a deep love for her grandchildren and loved playing with them.  She will be missed greatly for her big hugs that she loved to give and receive.
Pam is survived by her husband, Herb of Benson; children: Roger (Becky) Hippe of Starbuck, Phil (Karissa) Hippe of Starbuck, Tim (Lea) Hippe of Starbuck, Jodi Brandt of Minneapolis; 13 grandchildren: Jennifer (Cody) Flower, Lee (Jenae Phelps) Hippe, Kaitlyn Hippe, Hailey Zimmerman, Jaiden Zimmerman, Graidy Zimmerman, Darin Hippe, Grayson Hippe, Jacob Lien, Lucky Hippe, Joshua Hippe, John Hippe, and Kassaundra Hippe; brother, Jeff (Gayle) Schaub of Vadnais Heights; and several nieces and nephews.  She is preceded in death by her parents; and one sister and her husband, Janice and Thomas Danielson.
Starbuck Funeral Home is in care of arrangements for Pam.  To send condolences to the family, on-line, visit www.pedersenfh.com.

Steven Burns, 72, of Fergus Falls, Minnesota passed away unexpectedly December 23, 2021 at the Hospital in Fargo, North Dakota.  He is survived by his wife, Barbara and brother, Rodney (Loretta) of Benson, Minnesota.  He was preceded in death by his parents, Bernard and Delores Burns also of Benson.
Steve was born in Benson, December 30, 1948 and graduated from Benson High School in 1967.  He joined the US Army and served three years while stationed in Germany.  He graduated from Willmar Vo-Tech. with a degree in Accounting.  He worked at Federated Telephone in Chokio and later at Ottertail Tel Com in Fergus Falls until his retirement.
Steve had a great sense of humor, although it was somewhat unique to him.  He loved the “Calvin & Hobbs” cartoons from the newspaper and “Corner Gas” and “The Red Green Show” on television.  Any casual conversation he was involved in would erupt in laughter sooner rather than later.  He also enjoyed NASCAR racing and had opportunities to see the Indy 500 and other car races in Indianapolis, IN.  Fishing and enjoying time at Leech Lake in Northern Minnesota was also a huge part of the things he enjoyed.  He was a purest in many things from the right way to clean fish to the proper way to grill a steak.  He was his own person and if he had a personal theme song it would have been “I did it my way”.
